Humanitarian and educational advocate Greg Mortenson, co-founder of nonprofit Central Asia Institute and pennies for peace, co-author of The New York Times bestseller, three cups of tea, then a speech on October 25 that part of the current News series, "Creativity: Beyond the Box ".
The event, which is free and the public, will be held at 19:30 Weis Center for the Performing Arts of Bucknell University. "Greg Mortenson is the numerous obstacles to the education of the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan to overcome, and has inspired people around the world for his courage and vision," News Forum President and Vice President of Communications Pete Mackey said. "We expect to learn the news, and a remarkable experience."
Three cups of tea and a young-adult version, and co-author David Oliver Relin, chronicles Mortenson remarkable efforts to build schools in some of the wildest and remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan, despite the enormous political, cultural and geographic challenges. The books have gained an international reputation, and served as a catalyst for change in the non-profit, government agencies and others to think of education in developing countries.
Mortenson - whose second book, The Stones in Schools: promoting peace in the books not bombs in Afghanistan and Pakistan, former New York Times bestseller - more than 170 schools and another five dozen temporary refuge in schools in rural and often volatile regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. The schools of education, more than 68,000 children including 54,000 girls, who just started learning.
