From the fearless leaders to those who risked their lives to achieve the ultimate goal, this list is our favorite heroes. Memorable Quote: Now there’s another thing I want you to remember. I don’t want to get any messages saying that “we are holding our position.” We’re not holding anything. Let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly and we’re not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy.
John Wayne as Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Vandervoort in The Longest Day (1962). The War: WWII, the events of D-Day. Memorable Quote: “You can’t give the enemy a break. Send him to hell.” Clint Eastwood as Sergeant Thomas “Gunny” Highway in Hearbreak Ridge (1986). The line: Jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft is not a natural act. So let’s do it right, enjoy the view. Come on. Memorable Quotes: Trip: See the way I figure, I figure this war would be over a whole lot sooner if you boys just turned right on around and headed back on down that way, and you let us head on up there where the real fighting is.
Use the long weekend to download these movies from Netflix or head to the video store for a movie and popcorn. Then you can have a movie marathon on Memorial Day after the barbecue and the visits to the cemetery, because this is the best day to remember all our war heroes have done.
