National Coffee Day

National Coffee Day
September 29th, 2009, is National Coffee Day. In honor of the beloved bean’s big day, here are a few coffee definitions courtesy of The Nibble.com *Breve – This a word that I mixed up with “venti” yesterday (silly me). A “breve” is an espresso drink that uses half and half in place of milk. *Body – When someone is talking about the “body” of a coffee, they are referring the thickness of the brew. It is measured by the amount of oil or sediment present. A coffee with a heavy body would have a more complex flavor. *Caffee Americano – This refers to a shot of espresso that is poured over six ounces of hot water. Perparing it in this way produces a milder cup of coffee.
And because I’m into the copy cat recipe thing lately, click here to find a list of Starbucks copy cat recipes including Frappuccinos, Gingerbread Lattes, Almond Biscotti, and Peppermint Mochas. One breezy fall day somewhere outside Seattle, residents gathered in the town square and the mayor buttoned himself into his “special occasion” suit, all to celebrate the magnificent bean that tames hangovers and makes sleepy eyes bright. The lil’ brown guest of honor didn’t have much to say, but graciously accepted the key to the city and a day named for his oft-muttered name, “Coffee.” And so National Coffee Day was born, and since then, the magical beverage has done lots for everyone. So stop what you’re doing and celebrate. Sure, you could brew up a frothy mug at home, but it’s more fun to carouse with your fellow beanheads.
