Tyler Weinman

Tyler Weinman, 18, was arrested in the killing and mutilation of more than a dozen cats in Palmetto and Cutler bays ”Our communities of Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay have been on edge for many weeks now because of the horrific and unspeakable slaughterings of many of their beloved feline pets,” State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said in an early morning statement announcing the arrest.
Tyler Weinman was charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, 19 counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and 4 counts of burglary. Authorities said he lived in the areas of the attacks. “I sincerely hope that with his arrest, the residents will feel relieved and their cats will be safe once again. It is expected that the vicious crimes that have plagued these communities will not be repeated”.
In the days before his arrest, someone fitting Weinman’s situation has been mentioned by several area residents who attended a community meetings. They spoke of teen who lived between his mother’s home and his father’s home in Palmetto and Cutler bays, allowing him to attack cats in both neighborhoods. According to Miami-Dade county property records, Weinman’s parents live 1.43 miles apart in an area covering much of where the cat killings took place.

Johnny Benson

Johnny Benson is in a Grand Rapids, Michigan hospital in serious condition after a horrific crash at Berlin Raceway Saturday night, but hospital staff say he’s “expected to be fine.” In a statement released to a Grand Rapids TV station, a spokesperson for Spectrum Hospital said that Johnny Benson is “expected to be fine.”
At ISMA the Supermodifieds Race in Marne Michigan Saturday night, Benson’s car made contact with the wheel of another car driven by Larry Lehnert and crashed, bursting into flames. Benson was immediately pulled from the wreckage and the fire was extinguished by safety crews. Benson was then rushed ti hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries. Reigning NASCAR truck champion Johnny Benson is in serious but stable condition after a fiery crash during a SuperModified race.
The driver was starting his second lap when he collided with another car on Saturday night at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan. His car slammed into the wall and erupted into flames. Benson reportedly had multiple injuries, including burns and broken ribs. The 45-year-old driver lost his full-time ride last Monday when Red Horse Racing folded his Camping World Truck Series team because it couldn't find sponsorship.

Annette Funicello

Friday FlickPittsburg Public Library will present the first of four “Friday Flicks” at 1 p.m. This week’s movie will feature Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello in a 1965 beach party romp that also includes Linda Evans.Popcorn and beverages ill be available at the movie, which will be open free to all adults aged 18 and older.“Friday Flicks” is being held in conjunction with the adult reading program “Rock ‘n Read.” The program is made possible with support from the Friends of the Library.
Pittsburg Senior Citizens Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. in Lincoln Center for the annual talent show. Members will also play bingo. Snacks will be served. Fee to attend will be 50 cents. Anyone needing additional information may call the Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Department at 231-8310.
