“We have so much preparation to do Friday for our July 4th celebration in Lake Reba Park on Saturday that it is more practical for us to give city employees the day off on Monday,” said City Manager David Evans. “In addition to the parks and recreation and tourism departments, the police, fire and public works departments are heavily involved with putting on the Independence Day event,” he said.
“We’re expecting an ever larger crowd than usual this year because Exile, which got its start in Richmond, will provide the main entertainment,” Evans said. “Lots of people are excited about the event and have called City Hall and the tourism office requesting information.” The U.S. Postal Service, which normally is open for business on Saturdays, will observe the holiday tomorrow. Post offices will be closed Saturday and no mail will be delivered.
