Philadelphia Daily News

Philadelphia Daily News
COVER! Here is the Michael Vick cover of the Philadelphia Daily News today - “HIDE YOUR DOGS!” “What are they thinking!” Philadelphia Daily News announces Michael Vick’s Eagles signing with “Hide Your Dogs” as the front cover. But before you chuckle, the Philadelphia Daily News and Michael Vick have something in common today besides a cover - bankruptcy. Big debts reportedly plague both the paper and its dogged-subject today.
But Friday, Philadelphia Daily News readers found on the front steps the plastered headline. But when you open for the read, the copy is actually favorable. Les Bowen however calls it a big circus: “VERY LATE last night, Donovan McNabb declared that the Eagles’ stunning signing of Michael Vick was, “no different, really, than bringing T.O. here.” Because, you know, that turned out so well. The Eagles, controversy-free lately, rejoined the circus last night.
Paul Domowitch’s piece starts: “FORGET, FOR A MOMENT, if that’s possible, what he did and why an organization that perpetually has preached the importance of bringing in character players would sign a guy who has just spent almost 2 years in a federal prison.”

Philadelphia Inquirer Sports Columnist Phil Sheridan writes today Michael Vick is “not worth the trouble for Eagles”. Philadelphia Inquirer’s Sheridan blasts Vick as The Philadelphia Daily News “greets” Vick with a Friday cover that reads “Hide Your Dogs”. Sheridan says Vick was a “polarizing figure”. But today, Sheridan feels Vick isn’t worth the gamble.
“The downside here just isn’t worth the potential upside. It just isn’t.” Andy Reid thinks PETA has his support. “This is America. We do make mistakes, and in this situation he has a chance to prove he is doing the right things and I think the fans will be excited for him as long as he continues to do them. He’s been proactive, speaking all over the country and working with the Humane Society.”
Cue PETA statement from Dan Shannon to AP: “PETA and millions of decent football fans around the world are disappointed that the Eagles decided to sign a guy who hung dogs from trees. “He electrocuted them with jumper cables and held them under water. You have to wonder what sort of message this sends to young fans who care about animals and don’t want them to be harmed.”
