President Pratibha Patil on Friday condoled the death of veteran Congress leader Arjun Singh said the death of the country has lost a towering personality. "
Patil said Singh in his condolence message to the veteran in public life and most important task during a long career, has shown the acumen and ability to have.
"So he was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh three times, and the Governor of Punjab when the state was going through difficult times," he said.
The contribution of the parliamentary debates in Parliament has recognized the outstanding honor awards in 2000. With his death, the nation and the state of Madhya Pradesh has lost a towering personality, "he said.
Singh (81), who was admitted a few days ago toAIIMS, chest pain and neurological problems, died tonight.
In his message, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee saidthe "the nation lost a great leader who worked tirelessly for disadvantaged section of society."
"Arjun Singh, a number of important ministries under a long political career, deeply concerned about the welfare of marginalized groups," he said.
Prime Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit described Singh as a leader who was committed secular ideology.
"With his passing, the organization has lost an experienced leader. He will always be remembered for his contribution at different levels," said Dikshit.
