Brigham Young University basketball player Brandon Davies is suspended for the remainder of the season the team is the most personal problems: he had sex with his girlfriend, breaking the Mormon school's honor code.

Davies acknowledged that the school is violating the school's ban on premarital sex on Monday, sources close to the team, told the Salt Lake Tribune.

The Cougars, ranked third in the nation was stunned by the news of the resignation of the 6-foot-9 sophomore forward.

"This was a surprise for everyone," coach Dave Rose said. Sooner or thought Davies would play again, the coach said: "Yes, I know."

One source told the newspaper Davies "very remorseful, devastated."

The school announced Wednesday that Davis has been suspended, saying that his only crime was nothing criminal.

"Everyone who comes to BYU, all students, when an athlete or an athlete, that promised to do when they come," said Rose. "Many people are trying to assess whether this is good or bad, but it is an undertaking. This is not about good or bad. This is a commitment."

BYU honor code prohibits students drink alcohol and coffee. Students are also expected to be honest, and regular church attendance.
