bcs standings 2009

bcs standings 2009
The first BCS ranking of the year 2009 will be published in a Sunday afternoon, and everyone agrees that there are a couple of SEC teams, Florida and Alabama, the two followed by No. 3 Texas But what comes next? The normally precise BCS Guru, the Boise State edge at USC spot # 4 and the balance will consist of more than 10 Iowa, LSU, Cincinnati, TCU and Miami.
But the BCS standings are mostly a curiosity at this time of year. There's no prize for being atop the BCS on Oct. 18; the prize comes at the end of the season. So what's likely to happen over the next seven weeks? For starters, obviously, either Florida or Alabama will lose, because if they keep winning they'll meet in the SEC Championship Game. That means Texas just needs to keep winning, and they'll be in the BCS title game. The Longhorns' toughest remaining game is their next one, at Oklahoma State.
What can be put Boise State in the BCS title game conversation Oregon upsetting USC on Halloween. Since Boise State beats Oregon in the opening period, a Ducks victory is huge for the Trojans strength is the Broncos' expected and their reputation among the voters of the poll.

J 'I decided to learn more.
My crash course understanding is that "Virgin Maria Auxiliatrix" is a kind of prayer - "Virgin Mary, Help." Catholic Christians believe that Saints living in heaven - Mary chief among them - have close access to God. They say that while all Christians are invited to talk directly with God through Jesus, our prayers can be expedited by asking Christian saints to intercede on our behalf. Catholics don't so much pray to Mary as ask for her assistance in boosting our prayers toward God. Let me say again... I'm not Catholic. I've never yet directed a request to Mary or another deceased saint to intercede for me to God. I believe I have simple and direct access to God through Jesus and am invited to ask for help myself. I do this all the time and I believe I get answers all the time.
I have been thinking out loud here ... I'm moving to Christianity in the form, and I'm not ready for the daily practice of appealing to the saints. I work in the past alleged prejudices, to admit - publicly - that I understand that the number of Catholic brothers came to their beliefs and practices.

Jaycee Dugard against Philip and Nancy Garrido If abduction is prepared 29 - Visit count of rape cases against them and a testimony to the court, says lawyer to know new people. "Jaycee understands and appreciates that some things were quite horrible done for her and is fully aware that these people must be responsible, and consequently it is cooperating fully with law enforcement agencies involved in the persecution," says Scott McGregor, a former federal prosecutor.
The statements come one month after Garrido, 58, visited his parole officer with Jaycee, 29, and the two daughters he had with her, and Dugard revealed that Garrido had abducted her 18 years earlier as she walked to her school bus stop in South Lake Tahoe. Scott declined to discuss whether Dugard wants to testify or has mixed feelings. "It's premature to speculate how that might play itself out," he says. Scott, now a partner at Orrick, an international law firm, says he agreed to take the case pro bono to help administer a trust fund for the family – which has already raised over $100,000 – and because he feels he owes it to Dugard as someone who worked for law enforcement in the state for about the same length of time that Dugard's family was waiting for her to come home. "We could - and I include myself in it. We Jaycee Dugard has failed. And it's much to do that, "said Scott.

shama kabani

shama kabani
Shama Kabani has been named finalist in Business Week’s “Americas Best Young Entrepreneurs 2009″ . Shama Kabani is only 24 and says she is on her way to $280,000 in revenues for her company this year. Her company is based out of Dallas. But when she pitched her ideas McKinsey and Bain & Co, they passed.

Undeterred, Kabani, whose parents are both entrepreneurs, founded her own full-service online marketing firm in March 2008, to build Web sites, handle SEO, and create and manage social media campaigns. The six-employee business now takes on about 25 one-off projects a month and also acts as an online marketing department for six regular clients on a retainer basis. Fees range from a few hundred dollars for a newsletter design to $2,500 for a Web site project; monthly retainer fees start around $2,500. Kabani says Click To Client had about $120,000 in revenue in 2008, expects $280,000 for 2009, and is shooting for $1 million in 2010. Her first book, The Zen of Social Media Marketing, is due out in April.

The USS New York began its journey today to New York City for a commissioning ceremony scheduled for November 7, 2009. The USS New York departed from Avondale, Louisiana at 7 a.m. and traveled down the Mississippi River through downtown News Orleans. Spectators lined the levees waving flags that were handed out by representatives from Northrop Grumman Company, the company who built the ship. The 800-passenger ship was built in Avondale Louisiana and used eight tons of steel salvaged from the World Trade Center Towers after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Hi, my name is Cecilia and I'm a proud crew member on board the USS New York. I was born and raised right across the river in Newark, New Jersey. On 9/11 I was a freshman in biology class; at that moment I realized that America would never be the same. However, never in a million years did I think that I would be serving on a U.S. Navy vessel that was built in the remembrance of the event that took place on 9/11.
In the Navy, my title is Operations Specialist Petty Officer Second Class. My job entails the operation of radar and associated equipment. An OS identifies, maintains, and displays (plot) of the movement of ships, aircraft, missiles, and natural objects detected by our ship's radar. On my off time, I enjoy reading, writing poetry, spending time with family, four-wheeling, and just about anything that moves really fast. I'm also pursuing a degree in nursing; my goal for this year is to submit a package to become a Naval Officer. I am looking forward to getting underway today and beginning our journey back to Norfolk, Virginia.

is there mail on columbus day

is there mail on columbus day
Columbus day closings is there mail on Columbus day USPS post office holidays 2009. Many offices, banks and schools are going to be shut for Columbus Day. Several private concerns too will be closed for the day. Many parents remember their lessons about Columbus from grade school. The teachers told us: “In 1492, Christopher Columbus discovered America.” That is, of course politically and technically incorrect, as native cultures had already been thriving for centuries by the time Columbus's three ships arrived from Europe. A more accurate way of explaining it to children would be to say that "In 1492, Christopher Columbus had his first encounter with the Americas."
It would even be wrong to say that he was the first European to discover America, as Leif Eriksson and others had been there before him as well. The arrival of the Niña, the Pinta and the Santa Maria, marked the beginning of oppression and cruelty to the native people. Because of this, Columbus Day is also met with great protest throughout the Americas. Those opposing the day take the opportunity to reveal the unpleasant treatment that some European settlers subjected upon the indigenous people, including mass religious conversions and genocide. For many in the United States, the celebration been refocused as a celebration of Italian American culture, particularly in areas with a high concentration of people with Italian lineage.
This transition officially began in New York in 1866 and San Francisco in 1869, and has spread to Boston and other large cities. This has resulted in Italian-American themed celebrations, parades, and events. Columbus Day is marked as a national holiday in the United States, with most banks, some financial markets, federal agencies such as the US Postal Service, most state government offices, and many school districts closed for the day. It is celebrated throughout the Americas (North America, Central America and South America) on the same day, although the celebration, and its reasons, varies widely. For example, in Hawaii, it is Discoverer’s Day, combining Christopher Columbus’s explorations with those of Captain James Cook, who charted the Hawaiian Islands and celebrated the ancient people and their culture. In most states in the U.S., Columbus Day is met with parades and salutes to Italian American Culture.

justin beaver singer

justin beaver singer
At age fifteen Justin Bieber (sounds like beaver) is turning into a hip/hop and pop sensation. He was discovered on YouTube by Scooter Braun--Bieber's current manager--who took him to meet and consult with Usher in Atlanta, GA, where he signed a record deal with Island Records. Justin Bieber is from Stratford, Ontario where he learned how to sing, play the drums, piano, guitar, and trumpet. His mother started posting Justin's songs on YouTube for her friends and family--never thinking that he would wind up a tween heartthrob and a friend of Usher's. Before Justin's world turned upside-down he was performing covers of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Chris Brown--who after seeing Justin's YouTube video of his "With You" personally called him to congratulate him.
Justin is working on his soon-to-be released album My World which holds his hit single, "One Time." Justin performed Live this morning on The Today Show in front of hundreds of screaming tween girls. He has the innocence of Miley Cyrus, the looks of Zac Efron, and the "crush appeal" of Justin Timberlake (although Justin Timberlake has sex appeal at his age, Justin Bieber only has crush appeal :) ). The second single after "One Time" is called "One Less Lonely Girl" which is a sweet song--all of Justin's song have a sweetness to a hip/hop beat.

post office holidays 2009

post office holidays 2009
Is the Post Office Open today October 12 2009? Today is Columbus Day and Post Office locations because of the federal holiday are closed. Columbus Day is one of just a few federal holidays closing post offices and other federal institutions annually. Each year, the Federal Government issues a specific annual calender of official holidays. Write this list down - there are only a few dates left for 2009. All federal institutions are closed on the below dates while local and state agencies can elect to stay open, close, or open for a partial day.
Many countries in the New World and elsewhere celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas, which occurred on October 12, 1492 in the Julian calendar and October 21, 1492 in the modern Gregorian calendar, as an official holiday. On the Columbus Day, many offices will be closed, state office and federal are closed, but the city offices are open. Also the Post Office is closed to. Columbus was NOT Italian. Despite what Italian Americans believe when they adopted Columbus Day as an expression of their own cultural pride, Columbus had little to do with Italy. Instead, there is evidence that Columbus was, in essence, a Spanish Jew by origin and his family had only recently settled in Italy, escaping Spanish anti-Jewish violence.

chicago marathon 2009 race results
The fastest marathon on American soil--- that's what Kenyan Sammy Wanjiru managed to run when he broke the Chicago Marathon record by a second in a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 41 seconds. “I was really happy to see I was the winner,” Wanjiru said, “It was a bit unbelievable to take by one second the record,” he added with a laugh. But that second meant the 22-year-old runner collects a $100,000 bonus to go with his $75,000 first prize. Liliya Shobukhova of Russia took the female victory on a cold and windy day in a winning time of 2:25:56. “Despite the fact that it’s cold most of the time in Russia, it’s still too cold for the marathon,” she said through a translator.
Sammy Wanjiru broke a 1999 record set by Khalid Khannouchi and next expects to go after the world record of 2:03:59. Second was Abderrahim Goumri and third went to Vincent Kipruto. Liliya Shobukhova won for the women with a time of 2:25:55. Today’s run also features a Runners Reunite area and the Energizer Keep Going® Superstar Contest To assist participants in reuniting with friends and family after the race, a Runner Reunite area will be set up with alphabetical signs (A-Z) to facilitate locations by name. Runner Reunite is located at the 27th Mile Post-Race Party in Butler Field at the northeast corner of Columbus Dr. and Jackson Blvd., just beyond the start line. Participants are encouraged to devise a plan with their family and friends prior to the race to reunite in this area.
When making your plans, allow enough time to recover from the race, navigate through the finish area and collect your items from Gear Check. Also, be sure to organize a back-up plan in the event that you cannot locate your party. A Medical Tent will be located near the Runner Reunite Area at Jackson Blvd. and Lake Shore Dr. for participants who need additional assistance. Runner updates will be available at the Information Services tent for spectators to track runners during the race.

elinor ostrom

elinor ostrom
The Nobel in Economic Science was awarded to Elinor Ostrom, the first woman to receive the prize, and to Oliver E. Williamson on Monday. They share the prize for their separate work on economic governance, organization, cooperation, relationships and nonmarket institutions. Both professors teach at American public institutions: Ms. Ostrom at Indiana University, Bloomington, and Mr. Williamson at the University of California, Berkeley. Ms. Ostrom’s work focuses on the commons, such as how pools of users manage natural resources as common property. The traditional view is that common ownership results in excessive exploitation of resources — the so-called tragedy of the commons that occurs when fishermen overfish, for example. The proposed solution is usually to make users bear the external costs of their utilization by privatizing the resource or imposing government regulations such as taxes or quotas.
Ms. Ostrom’s empirical research has shown that this explanation is “overly simplistic,” the prize committee says: There are many cases around the world in which common property is “surprisingly well-managed.” In these cases commons users “create and enforce rules that mitigate overexploitation” without having to resort to privatizationand government regulation (which can both pose their own difficulties). The grasslands in the interior of Asia — shared for centuries in traditional group-based governance — are one such example. They appeared to fare better under group-based governance than under either socialism or privatization.
Ms. Ostrom received her Ph.D. in political science at U.C.L.A., and said in a phone interview during the prize committee’s announcement that she considers herself a political economist. She said she hopes her work may guide policy on global warming. Mr. Williamson’s work focuses on the boundaries of the firm, and the reasons for economic activity inside of firms: Why is there so much vertical integration in the marketplace? Why don’t we all just work for ourselves rather than together inside of a bigfirm? His work argues that “hierarchical organizations sometimes dominate markets because they provide a cheaper way to resolve conflicts,” the committee writes. When two employees quarrel about how best to use resources, a chain of command within the firm — usually leading back to a single chief executive — makes the decision about who is right.

family guy corn maze

family guy corn maze
A farmer in the United States has cut two of the characters from Family Guy, the cult animated comedy, into a maze on his property. Stewie and Brian form the centrepiece of this year's seven acre "Corn Maize" at Connors Farm in Danvers, Massachusetts. Bob Connors, the owner of the farm, has even approached Seth MacFarlane in the hope of persuading the Family Guy creator to pay a visit. “We’ve been trying to get in touch with him. I’d love to have him do the voices here on our busy weekend," he told the Boston Globe.
The makers of Family Guy, a sharp comedy about an average American family with a talking dog, posed no objections to the use of its characters in the maze. The programme is shown on the Fox Network in the US, and BBC3 in Britain. “They waived the rights and all that," Mr Connors added. “We have to run everything by them, but they’ve been great."
While corn, tomatoes and other crops are still grown on the farm, it boosts its income with an annual maze and other activities to attract families, including hayrides and fruit picking. This year's effort, which is only open until the end of the month, features the Griffin family's highly intelligent but misanthropic baby, Stewie, pointing up in anger at his friend Brian, the erudite family pet.

micah sloat death

micah sloat death
The feeling of reality so so artfully evoked that people have started looking up for news relating to the death of Micah Sloat. Weekend has always been known to be one of those times when the reports of celebrity death hoax have known to rule the roost. So, when Sloat’s name cropped up this weekend in the list, it just helped prove just how brilliant his performance has been on screen. “Paranormal Activity” has been released at few selected outlets (12) across US and has been receiving an exceptionally good response from all quarters. It is referred to as being the next “Blair Witch Project” in matters of success and cult worship. It has all the requirements that need to make it in to a worthy successor of the cult horror film of “Blair Witch Project”.
The movie focuses on the life of a young couple, played by Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, who are haunted by a strange supernatural presence in the house. In order to capture the cause of the uneasiness, the duo set up cameras all over their house. What they come across does not help put them at ease at all.
By Gina Gomez Oct. 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Ever since the movie “Paranormal Activity” hit the theaters on the Sep. 25 this year, it has successfully managed to create a good market for itself. The mockumentary achieved so much authenticity in levels of its cinematic treatment that it managed to convince the viewers that the lead pair of actors had seriously met with a tragic and fatal end by the time the movie got over.

charlyne yi

charlyne yi
Charlyne Yi, Asian American performance artist, musician, writer, painter and actress, Charlyne Yi’s new movie “Paper Heart” will open in theaters on August 7. Moviegoers may remember Yi from her brief but memorable appearance in director Judd Apatow’s hit comedy “Knocked Up.” In “Paper Heart,” Yi stars along with Michael Cera and Jake Johnson. It was directed by Nick Jasenovec and produced by Sandra Murillo. Yi executive produced in addition to co-writing the screenplay and stars as a fictionalized version of herself. The “hybrid-documentary” follows her as she embarks on a quest across America to find “love.”
According to the filmmakers, as Yi and her good friend (and director) Nick search for answers and advice about love, she talks with friends and strangers, scientists, bikers, romance novelists, and children. They each offer diverse views on modern romance, as well as various answers to the age-old question: does true love really exist? But shortly after filming begins, Yi meets a boy after her own heart: Michael Cera. As their relationship develops on camera, her pursuit to discover the nature of love takes on a fresh new urgency. Yi risks losing the person she finds closest to her heart. The movie combines elements of documentary and traditional storytelling, reality and fantasy into a whimsical story that won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

whip it movie

whip it movie
“Whip It” Movie Review -- Bliss Cavendar is going nowhere, slowly. She has a job at a barbecue joint that requires her to wear an apron with a giant pig’s face on it. She has a mother who insists she compete in local beauty pageants. She has a boyfriend who … well actually, no. She doesn’t have a boyfriend. So Bliss decides she has to do something, fast. After all, she’s 17. Life is passing her by. So she catches a bus out of her small Texas town to Austin where she tries out for — and amazingly earns — a spot on the Hurl Scouts roller-derby team.
Yes, “Whip It” is actually a modern movie about roller derby. Even more improbably, it stars Ellen Page, the petite, smart-mouthed star of “Juno,” which is a little like a movie about Michael Cera going for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Ol’ Juno MacGuff as a derby queen? Those jocks spit bigger than she is. The gulf between the dream and the reality could be a large part of the humor in “Whip It.” Unfortunately, there isn’t much comedy in the movie at all. Instead, it just recycles ideas from quirkier indie comedies (the beauty pageants, the schlocky minimum-wage jobs) and more mainstream young romances (the “sensitive” new boyfriend, the follow-your-dream bromides). It’s as if Napoleon Dynamite and Little Miss Sunshine strapped on skates and sailed right into some pat Hollywood comedy.
That’s too bad, because Barrymore — who’s starred in a few pat Hollywood comedies herself — is making her directing debut here (as well as taking on a small part as one of the derby queens). And you’d think, after 30 years of being in front of a camera, she’d have a few novel ideas about what to do behind it. But “Whip It” just moves blandly along, right up to the inevitable “gag” reel under the final credits. The derby scenes are filmed in such tight closeups that we miss out on the plays the women are working so hard to execute; Bliss’ conflicts with her best friend, her new boyfriend and her parents are so obvious they could write themselves.

colorado department of transportation

colorado department of transportation
The Colorado Department of Transportation's plan for this winter includes the typical snow removal equipment and products that CDOT has used over the years, with some minor improvements. "We will operate with the same number of employees and snowplows as we did last year so we can continue to provide the same level of service to the citizens of Colorado," said CDOT Executive Director Russ George. "Safety remains our No. 1 priority and that means our crews will be working days, nights, weekends and holidays during inclement weather to help ensure motorists reach their destinations safely."
This winter, CDOT will have 245 employees working in the Denver metro area. They work in 12-hour shifts and are responsible for 3,850 lane miles of highway. In all, 131 pieces of equipment will be used, including 112 snowplows that apply liquid and/or solid deicers, three 6,000-gallon tankers that apply liquid deicers and 16 brooms to sweep up or pick up material after a storm. Eleven of the trucks are new this year, replacing ones that have been used well past their original usefulness.
In five of the snowplows, technology will help drivers determine the appropriate treatments for a roadway. The Maintenance Decision Support System (MDSS) combines advanced weather prediction, advanced road condition prediction and rules of practice for anti-icing and de-icing to generate road treatment recommendations on a route-by-route basis. The goal of MDSS is to provide more effective use of maintenance resources and increase safety, reliability and mobility on roadways. "The use of our equipment, products and technology truly help us keep the roadways clear of snow and ice, but we still need the traveling public to do their part during a snowstorm," said Roy Smith, CDOT's acting maintenance superintendent for the Denver metro area.

asolo italy

asolo italy
Palladian villa tour in Italy is magnificent If Americans have heard the proper noun Asolo, they think of it as an Italian brand of athletic shoes and mountaineering boots. Veteran travelers in northern Italy know better. Asolo, as I discovered with my wife, Rosalie, during a weeklong visit in early July, is a small, heavenly Italian hill town (population, 1,500). It perches above wooded slopes on the edge of the agricultural and industrial plain, or pianura, which extends north and west from Venice and the Adriatic Sea to the foothills of the Dolomites, the towering limestone peaks that form the eastern buttress of the Italian Alps. Beloved by the English poet Robert Browning and the early-20th-century travel writer Freya Stark, Asolo has superb restaurants, arcaded streets lined with shops, great bars and sidewalk cafes, a lively main piazza and a beautiful church installed with religious paintings by the important Renaissance artists Lorenzo Lotto and Jacopo Bassano.
For lovers of Renaissance architecture, Asolo also makes an excellent base for day trips to the world famous Renaissance villas of Andrea Palladio in and around nearby cities, such as Vicenza, Palladio's home town. From Asolo, we found great destinations in every direction. When we returned each day, we left behind the busy gas stations, factories and shopping strips that line the main arteries nearby and ascended the quiet, fragrant, tree-covered slopes that led to Asolo's cozy, cobbled streets. There, we plotted the next day's expedition over a plate of local cheeses washed down with glasses of amarone, the robust red wine of the Veneto, the region that arcs around Venice. If it was hot, we sipped flutes of chilled prosecco, a light, sparkling wine produced in nearby Valdobbiadene, before dining on a regional dishes such as baccala, or salted cod.
Palladio (1508-1580) revolutionized architecture by adapting ancient Greek and Roman architectural motifs to churches, government buildings and country villas of his day. Through his "Four Books of Architecture," he influenced everyone from Sir Christopher Wren to Thomas Jefferson to itinerant carpenters on the American frontier. A cruise along Shaker Boulevard in Shaker Heights is all that's needed to see Palladio's reach. Just about every other house features a simplified version of the classical temple facades Palladio perfected for his Venetian clients.

google squared

google squared
Google boosted its Google Squared search service. When Squared launched in June, users would receive up to 30 fact squares. As of today, Squared now displays up to 120 facts per query. Users can also now sort columns, letting users rank, group and compare items, with Squared converting units in the background. Users can also now export data from Squared to a Google Spreadsheet or a CSV file. Meanwhile, Google's mobile search team formally released the Quick Search Box for Android smartphones. Google Oct. 9 rolled out several improvements to its experimental Google Squared search service, including more facts, better relevance, sort and rank capabilities, and the ability to extract data to Google Spreadsheets.
Demoed at Google's May Searchology event and launched in June from Google Labs, Google Squared extracts facts from all over the Internet and presents them in a spreadsheet-type interface, bringing structure to normally unstructured data. Typical Web search today from Google, Microsoft and Yahoo lets users enter a query and see links from multiple Web sites that may or may not adequately answer the query. If a query proves complex, users often have to click through multiple links to find satisfactory answers. What this kind of search doesn't do is adequately answer more complex research questions, for which the answers reside on multiple Web sites instead of one.
That's the problem Google Squared, as well as Wolfram Alpha's search engine, seeks to address. Rather than returning a list of Web site links, Squared spits out a table of facts culled from the Web. When Squared launched in June, users would receive up to 30 fact squares. As of today, Squared now displays up to 120 facts per query. See this example of a Squared query for "U.S. presidents" here. Users can also now sort columns, letting users rank, group and compare items, with Squared converting units in the background. For example, users can sort by tallest buildings in the U.S., or group restaurants by neighborhood. These are key parameters for boosting relevance.

The Baltimore Marathon is more than just a running event. Thousands of city residents will participate in the festivities and be there to cheer on the winners as they cross the finish line. Celebration Village is set up near the finish line and will feature live music, interactive games, food and drink until 3 PM. The Village is free there will be plenty of activities for children, as well. Not only is this a day for runners hoping to win The Baltimore Marathon, it is also a great day for the economy in Baltimore. The size of the event means big business for local businesses. Research done by Towson University revealed that each marathoner brings two people with them and spends about $200 by staying in Baltimore hotels and eating in local restaurants.
Baltimore Business Journal's Heather Harlan stated, "Last year, in the throes of a recession, it generated $22 million. So, the hope is that this year it will go up at least another $4 million, so we will see a $25 million or upwards impact for the businesses that desperately need it right now." As the 2009 Baltimore Marathon runners race to the finish line, it will prove to be a day full of festivities, goodwill and economic stimulation for the Baltimore area. Results will be streaming in as the runners and the crowds enjoy a exciting day in Baltimore.
