Connecticut Huskies starting Cornerback Jasper Howard died Sunday morning after the stabbing on campus according to Hartford Courant. Jasper died in St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, according to the newspaper. Courant also reported Huskies coach Randy edsall was in the hospital.
Louisville wide receiver Doug Beaumont had gained 31 yards on a pass from Hunter Cantwell and had a clear path down the middle of the field when Howard caught up and grabbed him from behind. "I felt my hand on [the football] and I just stripped it out," Howard said. "Once I feel my hand on the ball, I'm going to tug away at it." Howard didn't need to catch Powell from behind Saturday. He met him head-on at the UConn 5-yard line midway through the third quarter, felt the football and pulled it out, saving the Huskies from what would likely have been at least a field goal.
It's the second fumble forced by UConn in the quarter. At first, Aaron Powell and seize Bagsby UConn won 33, and midfielder Lawrence Wilson recovered. "It helps a lot because they are going to, and they put the points on the board," said Bagsby. "When you take points from them, it is always a good thing."
