Even your feet, you probably know the Big Bird. Big Bird's feet at Google today celebrates 40 years of Sesame Street. Feel old yet? The segment is part of a PBS documentary scheduled air in April, including the stories of four families have suffered losses.
The cold reality of the war on terror has struck Sesame Street, where the sweetest of the sweet muppets, Elmo, is coping with the loss of his heroic uncle, Jack. Please hand us a tissue. The upcoming Sesame Workshop video, featuring Elmo's war-vet dad, Louie, is aimed specifically at U.S. military families coming to grips with the loss of a parent during the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sesame Street consulted with Defense Department on the script, according to officials, and avoids any explicit mention of combat or the war for the sake of healing children.
In one scene, Elmo is on a family picnic with his Aunt Jill and Uncle Jessie and forget about the loss of his uncle, asks "Where's Uncle Jack?" Elmo's mom reminds him that Jack died, causing any apparent stress to Jesse. Elmo's Dad, Louie, then meet with Jessie established to encourage her to talk about their feelings.
