brash quarterback named Joe Namath predicted victory and the press carried the story worldwide The Jets led by Mr. Namath did exactly as he had said they would; they won the real first Super Bowl With a solid defense, Namath's golden arm, and the running talents of Matt Snell and Emerson Boozer a 16-7 victory was a fait accompli and the Jets easily road into sports history.
But fans are called fans for a reason. The word "fan" does come from the word fanatic after all. Just like the character of Joe Hardy in the play "Damn Yankees" who was willing to make a deal with the devil so his beloved Washington Senators would win a World Series, Jets fans are desperately hoping that "some year soon" their team will be on the field during Super Bowl play.
So Joe Willie Namath, maybe a little sparkle left over from your heyday, a little magic, and a small miracle might rub off on the team you lead to victory so long ago if you show up at some of their games next year. No one is asking you to make any predictions, just come around. Where have you been? Come and visit and bring the panti-hose for old times sake and good luck.
