Brighton Beach
One person was slain and four others injured during a wild shootout in a packed Boardwalk in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, on Thursday afternoon, according to police. The shooting unfolded on a day when a mini-heat wave in the school holidays and sent hordes of people in Coney Island and Brighton Beach, packed with beach-goers - many of them teenagers - trying to escape temperatures almost 100 degrees.
According to authorities, a military opened fire on the Boulevard, near Brighton Sixth Street around 05:20, severely injuring a man and a woman, the woman died in Coney Island Hospital, where the man was in critical condition. Three other people were hit by bullets hospital, a man in serious condition Lutheran Medical Center. One of the victims' names were published.
A man was questioned in the shooting late Thursday, but police said no arrests had been. The panic began shooting the Boardwalk. Witnesses described masses of people running and screaming, they scrambled for safety.
